Default Looking for scraps

Good morning from NC. I live in a small town with no local fabric options other than Walmart. Sometimes I can travel to a Hobby Lobby a few towns over. I subscribed to Sew Sampler Box mostly to get access to nice fabric. I am looking for ways to purchase scraps - especially batiks for small projects like mug rugs. I see a few on eBay but they seem expensive. Any suggestions?

See if there is a Quilting group nearby. Many Guilds have a free table. I have also found fabrics at Garage sales. Often the family just wants to get rid of it. Another option is repurposing clothes like our past quilters. Thrift stores have sales of fabrics they can't resale. A friend at my Guild started repurposing fabrics while her husband was in the military and money was tight. She is hooked and doesn't buy fabric yardage at all.

I recently bought a couple of jelly roll packs because I wanted a variety of batiks to make a collage quilt with an couldn't figure out a cheap way to get a lot of different colors online (I didn't need a yard or two of each and many places have minimum requirements.)

They may be a bit more pricey than you're looking for, but they have a surprising amount of fabric per roll. Maybe something to look at?

A nice way to get a variety of scraps is to buy 10" squares layer cakes online. Connecting Threads often has sales and MSQC has daily deals with precuts often at 40% off or more. I too am having a hard time buying scraps cheap. We used to live where a wonderful thrift store is and they always had gallon Ziploc bags filled with scraps, but so far I haven't found anything like that here in our new corner of the State.

While you have to purchase in 1 yard minimum increments, (so not exactly scraps but will be reduced to scraps once you cut into them!) I highly recommend Hancocks of Paducah on line, they almost always have a great sale going on batiks. Right now they have a lot on sale for $4.99 per yard. https://www.hancocks-paducah.com/SAL...sc&Theme=Batik

If you are a repurposing peerson ( thrift shopper) look for table cloths, drapes & sheets. They offer much nore yardage and are usually very reasonable. Many people use large men's shirts or women;s clothing in large sizes.

Hi Nonnie,
there are quilters who sell scraps on Etsy. Any size, any color, batiks, etc.

Keep an eye on the “offer” section of this board. There are often offers of scraps just for postage
