The warm & natural is getting to be really expensive, even on sale, so I'm looking for a new brand. i don't like the hobbs 80/20 that I tried-it kind of stretched apart when I was trying to smooth it and I prefer something where I can quilt further apart-but I don't think they're sold by the yard anyway. Full/queen/king cuts just result in waste and I'd rather avoid piecing batting if I can. Is there a similar brand that is less expensive but sews up the same? But with a scrim so it's not stretching apart like the hobbs did. I'd prefer something that has to be quilted 6" or bigger.

I looked at some pellon but it says to soak before washing and I don't really want to do that.

Hmmm I use Warm and Natural and White and Natural, Hobbs 80/20 and Hobbs Poly batting. I also like wool but that is even more pricey. For awhile I used a brand that was American made and was similar to W and N but cheaper. When I tried to order it again the price had shot up to the same as Warm and Natural.

That is one thing I use my Joann coupons on. Also my LQS's have a stamp card that when it is filled you get $'s off.

I use quilters dream "request" batting that I get on amazon, often without a label (because they cut it off a continuous roll). It is cheaper than connecting threads 30% off sale and no shipping charge. Very thin, no scrim, works perfect every time. If you stay with one brand, you can always piece pieces together.

Even with a 50% off coupon it's still pretty high. Right now it's 40% off so no coupon can be used (other than 20% off regular or sale items). Regular price is $19.99 a yard now and i don't remember it being that high the last time (It's been a while-I bought about half of a full bolt). I don't have a lqs.

I prefer it with a scrim-it seems like no scrim tries to stretch out when I'm smoothing it out to sandwich.

eta: how does the request loft compare to warm & natural? It says for summer quilts and wearables on the quilter's dream website and suggests the "select" for regular quilting.

Are you interested in purchasing the batting by the bolt? If so you could check out Fairfieldworld.com I think it comes out to be a reasonable price it was 182.00 for a 90" by 20 yds. Laura from Sew Very Easy swears by it. I haven't been using it long enough to give you feedback.

Possibly. I normally can't afford a whole bolt. Last time there was about half of a bolt so they measured it out and I bought it all.

I use Soft & Bright which is the poly equivalent of W&N but half the price. It's a really nice soft batting with a scrim. I buy it by the bolt on Amazon or Walmart.com, my last bolt I got for less than 90 for a 25yard 90'wide bolt on Walmart. The price fluctuates quite a bit though, so it can be frustrating. They both carry the cotton bolts too.
I think the Fairfield company makes a cotton batting too (Soft & Toasty) that's really nice, Pellon makes some nice battings too, they have the usual all poly, all cotton, and the 80/20 blend and they carry those on Walmart.com, you can get a 9 yard 90" wide bolt for around 30 for all cotton Pellon batting
