Has anyone ever used their embroidery machine to put a design on the quilt such as a border? If so, what did you do to hoop the quilt? Wash away?

I thought it might be too thick to put in the hoop. What do you do it it is the border and you cant hoop the one side?

I did the machine embroidery on the border before the quilt was pieced together. A quilt top already pieced may be too heavy and bulky to try to embrioder.

I just made sure that it was tight in the frame. I had to loosen the screw up almost all the way but I have also done quilt as you go on blocks it worked out great..

I quilted a border on a table runner. You will need to make sure the screw is really loosened and because you are trying to quilt along the edge, you might have to temporarily sew (basting stitch) a strip of fabric along the outer edge so you have something to hoop on that side.

You shouldn't need any stabilizer as the quilt sandwigh is stable enough once hooped.
Let us know how you do and maybe you could post pictures.

If your quilt is already sandwiched, you do not need to use a stabilizer. Just make sure it is tight in the hoop. If need be, you can do a basting stitch before you stitch the design.
