Something I just thought of, is to try one of the other Schmetz needles to see if I have the same problem. It may have been that particular needle that I had a problem with. Thanks, everyone for reassuring me that it wasn't the machine. Chris

I went back and tried several jeans needles and none would slide into the needle shaft. Wish I had a way of measuring the head of the needles to see if there is a difference in the two needles. Chris
