    Default weighted long ruler

I recently saw a man on t.v. cutting six layers of fabrics into strips. he had a regular long ruler plus one that seemed weighted. he used the weighted one to smooth the fabric, the regular one to see where he wanted to cut, then the weighted one to actually cut with, I think. i cannot think of the name... anyone?? oh it has a handle too!
    found it!!! quilters slidelock!!!

you can also put a little hand weight on the far end of your ruler. I have a 5 pounder I think. It is lime anyway

I use a little plastic container that I keep pattern weights in to put on the end of my ruler. It really does help keep your ruler from moving around. I keep hearing about quilter's slidelock. I'm going to have to look at them.

Quilter's Slidelock is what you are probably wanting. I have two, a long one and shorter one. I use them for all my long cuts. I use mine more for safety reasons but they are fantastic to keep the ruler from slipping off the fabric. I put mine on top of the ruler.

the only difference it would make to me using the slidelock is putting my fabric to my left. something to get used to. Still i may save my money and just use the 5 lb weight, he, he.

? I use it and my fabric is on the right just like normal. I put the Slidelock on top of the ruler. I use the ruler edge when cutting the fabric.

do you put your hand on the slidelock when cutting? I am right handed and always like fabric to my right. don't know why.

You are backwards, lol. No, really, I cannot use a ruler and rotary cutter with the fabric to the right. Maybe its from drafting, my hand and whatever I'm usinf is to the right if the ruler so I can see the edge and make sure I'm up against it. How can you do that if you are right handed?

I am right handed and always cut with fabric to the right. I hold ruler with left hand and walk that hand down the ruler as I cut. Doesn't make since to me to do it any other way.
