Default Machine Table-Against the wall or

Do you have your sewing table against the wall or does it float in the room? Which position do you like?

I've always had mine against a wall due to room space and layout. The current room is 10x12. But I'm considering switching my sewing room to a bedroom that is 11.5 x 13.5 so a little more space.

The biggest consideration would be the electrical cord.

Perhaps the cutting table should be floated in the room. I love room planning.

I've always kept mine pushed into a corner so that the back and left of the table are blocked by the walls. That way, my quilt doesn't ever fall off the table on those sides when I'm quilting, and I don't have to worry about supporting them on those sides.

Having the cutting table accessible on all sides sounds wonderful though!

My sewing table is against the wall in front of the window. I like the natural light. My cutting table is in the middle of the room so I can use either side and it's also directly under my overhead light which is nice.

Mine has my machine facing out into the room and I keep a card table on the other side of the table for machine quilting quilts.

Mine faces onto the back of a couch ...
Like others, to keep the fabric on the machine table, and not cause drag by falling on the floor.

If you're making changes, a good depth behind the machine would be good to plan in the scenario,
to allow space for anything that's being sewn to accumulate without coming back at the machine!

I also have my sewing table against the wall under the Windows so I can keep the fold down section extended and an extra table on the left side to hold larger quilts. Would like to have my cutting table in the middle of the room.

My husband and I converted a wall of our oversize master bedroom closet into my sewing space. He installed cabinets and a large countertop against the wall under the window. I have a great view of our backyard and garden and lots of natural light. I usually do my cutting on the dining room table where I can reach my project from all angles.

I have always had the DSM that I using up against a wall. I would love to have the means to set it out a ways from the window. Especially when sewing on a larger quilt. I feel cramped so much of the time.

Both my cutting and sewing tables are "floating," and I have an outlet in the floor under one table. It's nice, but it hasn't been the big thing I expected it to be. My cutting table, where I move around way more, has an extension cord crossing right where I'm standing. I regularly tromp on it, but it hasn't been a big deal.

hugs,
charlotte
