I have use hand embroidery thread several times and it works fine. I used 2 strands of the floss. DMC sells little fat spools of embroidery thread that I like even better. I found running the thread through beeswax helped. Is this what you were asking? I have never used machine embroidery thread.

I was thinking of the different Sulky, Mettler or other kinds I have. I just looked at them, and they do seem a bit thin for the effect I want. I may just stick to my normal Dual Duty in an off-white, or maybe cream.

If you are talking about machine embroidery thread, I think it would work well. I use rayon or poly thread for machine embroidery and although I have never quilted with it, I have used it on several garments....towels, bibs, aprons, etc. and they are washed much more frequently than a quilt would be. I have never had thread weaken or break on those items from laundering.
