Ha. Glad you mentioned this. I think it loses its starching power after a while.
I had the same problem and thought to myself "Did I put water in there by
mistake or is it the product that evaporated?" but I had the bottle clearly
marked. So that's two of us. And I have another full bottle left. I'm
surprised they don't have an expiry date on the bottle.

You may find the Stay Flo concenrate to be to your liking.. its about $2.50 for about 1/2 gal of concentrate.. dilute to your needs. Keep your Niagara bottle to use with the concentrate.
I like to custom mix my starch .. some projects .. specifically those with really tiny pieces.. I use it full strength .. it makes a huge difference , alos when paper piecing keeps the larger pieces from folding back on itself when you put it under the needle .
Where have you found the Stay Flo concentrate?

I just bought some at my local Mad Butcher grocery store. But they don't have any non-aerosol. It's too far to drive to try WM. Just have to check next time I go.

Walmart had a sign that said it recently brought back the non-aerosol due to popular demand. I didn't know that Costco carried starch. I'll have to look next time I'm there. I think Mary Ellen's acts more like sizing than starch. Just my opinion.

I do know I like sizing better. Also it seems to me that starch attracts damating insects.

    Chemistry behind it:

    Starch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starch
    Sizing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sizing
I had to get to page 4 before I found anyone addressing the difference between the two. Mary Ellens Best Press doesn't have any starch in it. I live in buggy PA and don't want anything on my fabric that attracts bugs. Starch, whether it is Niagra, or any other kind attracts little bugs that eat the starch while doing damage to the fabric.

My LQS marketed Mary Ellen's as not attracting bugs vs. traditional starch, which will apparently. Now, due to cost, I use MEs on wallhangings and blocks that I trade/swap. For anything I make that I know will be laundered after quilting, I use Niagra.

I also noticed that MEs doesn't really make the fabric stiff. When my LQS owner pieces she likes her pieces stiff like cardboard and uses the cheapest aerosol from Wal-Mart!

Lol that LQS has a great marketing department! You can use sizing, which won't attract bugs either, and is easily available at the grocery store.

Megga dittos on the Niagra Mona. I refuse to pay that much for starch. I can usually get the Niagra for under $2. It is good stuff and I use bottles and bottles of it.

I never used Mary Ellen's but don't think I will just because of the price. What I've found that has worked exceptional well is Niagara Sizing Spray. Wrinkles and creases that I had tried removing with just steam or/and spray starch, just won't come out but the Sizing spray they disappeared. And I like using it in place of spray starch, it gives the stiffness that I've needed without the flakiness that sometimes happens with spray starch. Have even found marks left by the machine embroidery hoops very hard to remove but with a spray of the Sizing, the marks just seem to disappear. Chris
