The mathmatically challenged!
#1
Are there any other mathmatically challenged quilters out there. I was so bummed yesterday.. I cut some fabric and of course it ended up not being the size I want. I did realize that it was my cutting and not the math.. I have to give kudos to my friend Pam for her skills with the adding, if it wasn't for her and my "Lovin' Man" I would be so pitiful! What do you do to help with your calculations on a quilt?

I am not mathematically challenged but I have cut fabric wrong before. The rule there is that it is usually the last piece and I have no more to fix the mistake. Time to get creative. If you know that your challenge is the math I'd suggest to write down all the steps (or measurements) and use a calculator.
It is always a good idea to do a test block too.

I know how to do the math, but if I do it too quickly, I am prone to mistakes. More times than I like to think of, I have done a quick mental math and then made a block, and thought "Why isn't it as big as the others", and realized I calculated something wrong. Seam allowances, usually.
If I think about how much fabric this has cost me, I might cry. :(
