Default Minky vs Joann's brand

I have seen many posts about quilting with minky fabric and wonered about how it may differ from the cuddly fabric from Joann Fabrics. Any experience about this? Thanks.

I believe that Benartex introduced the original product, named Minkee Blankee. Since then, other manufacturers have made similar products, with different names and spellings. I've always gotten the benartex, so can't give you a comparison.

someone brought me a quilt to quilt .......they went to joanns and got a piece of fabric for the back ....although it was very cute it was kinda soft when you brushed it one way so it had a good pile to it quilted on the machine ok [i was worried ] but the pile pulled back through to the top ....lesson learned

JoAnn's is a cheaper imitation of true Minky. Not as soft or dense.

Thanks sushi, does it being not as soft or dense make a big difference in quilting it? What would you recommend? Thanks.
