Mix denim and flannel in rag quilt?
I am considering combining denim and high-quality flannel (Maywood Woolies) in a rag quilt, but I am uncertain if they would play nicely together over time. Has anyone tried this? Even if you haven't, what do you think would happen if I mixed the two fabrics?
One possibility is to make one side flannel and the other denim. Another possibility is to make each "patch" either denim/denim or flannel/flannel. Or I could mix everything randomly.
I look forward to hearing from you, my trusted quilting companions!
Thank you.

I have not done this myself but have seen mixed quilts. I would think denim on one side and flannel on the other would keep the block consistent on the thickness. I'm sure it will be nice and durable whichever way you choose

I made 2 rag quilts years ago using the denim on the front side and flannel on the back side. Since they both fray nicely I found they worked nicely together. But oh boy were the quilts heavy as I made them into over sized lap quilts for growing boys.

Yes, I've done flannel/ denim combos....even put batting in between and sewed a large x to keep it together......then when I sewed those blocks together, I alternated one flannel, one denim...so front and back are checkerboard, only one side ragged, though....took to laundromat and washed twice to get good rag look....come to think of it, I did not prewash that flannel, and the denim was from garage sale jeans.......and it is fine......weighs a ton, but dd loves it!
