If it is a color that blends with the quilt, why not use it. I bought a lavender quilt kit and for the ribbon border they chose a mottled moda print, I took it out and used a beautiful purple batik that really set the quilt. The rest of the quilt was in traditional prints.

It is absolutely OK and even if someone thought it weren't, it's your quilt and you can do whatever pleases you. froggyintexas

If it fits - Mix!!
Quilting is all about bits and pieces. There are few rules, and for the few that do exist there are quilters that will give you several exceptions to each and every one of those rules.

The only time I wished I hadn't mixed fabrics was when I decided to hand quilt a project. Batiks are HARD to hand quilt. Stick to machine quilting, do what you want, no one can stop you....
