sure,,,just wash the regular fabric first! shrinking will occur and the batiks, are already washed, so they won't shrink the same as the others...

Heavens, I do it all the time! The only rule that matters is that you like the combination.

I am NOT the Quilt Police. I think everyone should do what floats their boat. However... I have an experienced friend who mixed batiks and regular cotton quilting fabric in a quilt once, and she did struggle a bit. She said the quilting cotton had a lot more give to it, while the batiks didn't, and seams where the two met were somewhat challenging. She said she wouldn't mix fabrics again. She used a package of Bali Pop batiks. Her quilt turned out beautiful, though! Here's a picture:

Yes! I do it all the time and like it. As for the looks it is all up to you. If you like it go for it. Here are some.

When I was new to quilting, and didn't know any better, I used batiks as sashing. Came out great. But I was prewashing all my fabrics back then. So, I agree; wash the cottons first.

I mix them with great results! If you like how they look together, go for it! Here are a few that I've done.

katier825, I love all 3 of your quilts, but especially the 1st one. Is that one done in shades of teal?

Yes, teals, turquoise, aquas. My favorite colors I guess, since many of my quilts end up with that color scheme. The butterflies and dragonflies fabric was the inspiration for it. I forget the maker, but it was advertised for ovarian cancer quilts. I didn't make it for anyone with cancer though...I just loved the fabrics. They had metallic thru them and are so pretty.
