Yes..it is....that is why I am wondering if it will compare to the "real" or Copyrighted minkee....since it is all polyester....maybe it will hold up similarly?

Have bought genuine Minkee at LQS and a similar looking product at both WalMart and Joann's. Big difference in weight - the real thing is easily identified as having more fiber per inch both in density and height. However, the lighter weight lookalikes are great for quilts for newborns and toddlers and for use in warmer climates.

Could swear I just saw something called mock minkee at Hobby Lobby too. I touched it - it felt like minkee but kept going cause wasn't shopping for that right now!

i have to tell this story.

last fall i had a chance to go to MaryJo's.

they have miles and piles of every sort of material you can imagine.

HUGE table of fleece and mega-rolls of Minkee.

i made the mistake of running my hand over a roll of Minkee as i was headed past it toward the quilting fabs. impossible to describe how good it feels.

a small crowd of ladies gathered around, all of us petting that roll and comparing it to a certain activity enjoyed by affectionate adults and reckless youth.

my friend had to drag me away. :XD:

I am getting ready to use some Hobby Lobby "minkee" fabric on the back of a baby quilt. I have the real minkee in my stash and comparing the two, I have to agree that the real minkee is a tighter weave and more dense. The price of the Hobby Lobby fabric was $12.99 with 30% off. When I bought my minkee from my LQS, I paid $16.99 with a %20 discount at the time. For a baby quilt for a neighbor, I will go with the cheaper fabric, but if I am making it for a family member, I probably will spend a little more money because they will hopefully hold on to it as a keepsake.

Joann's has a Minkee type fabric that is not the Minkee brand...probably what Wal-mart has.

Too funny, I am making a baby quilt and I told the ladies at the library that it felt almost as good as the activity you might be inferring to.
