I am planing to purchase the Monster Snap Hoop. I have a Brother DreamMaker embroidery machine with upgrade that I would like to use for quilting. I need help with what size Snap Hoop to buy for quilting. I would like to get the largest that will still leave me room for at least half the quilt to the right of the hoop under the machine's throat. I quilt mostly throw size and twin size quilts.

Any advice on the size of Snap Hoop I should buy?

i imagine that your quilt cannot be too 'squished' under the arm so that the motion of the embroidering still has plenty of room to move. I guess i'd test that by placing your quilt under the arm and measuring how much room you have to the left of the 'squished' part of the quilt.

Thank you Nancy, I will measure that today. I was also looking at a quilt as you go column method (https://www.candiedfabrics.com/2013/...ing-as-you-go/) I found in this forum, that puts all already quilted columns to the left of the machine head. That would mean I could use the largest hoop.

I would imagine the 8x12 or 7x12 is popular but I haven't got one that sixe I do have a 5 x 7 and hope to get an 8x12 this year some time

The size of hoop needs to correspond with the sewing area available of your machine. The VE2200 has a sewing area of 180x300mm ( 7x11" i think) so you couldn't use a larger hoop.
Remember, unless you are qayg in strips, you will still have bulk under the throat of the machine when you tackle the middle of the quilt, so will need to support that part to keep it off the hoop.

I have the monster hoop and just love it on my Viking. I have use it even when I could use a smaller hoop cause it is so easy to line up.

If your machine is comparable to the Babylock Destiny your machine can handle the 9.5x14 hoop, if it is comparable to the BL Unity (I also upgraded) your machine can handle the 8x12 (this is what I purchased). Be aware that when you are quilting in the hoop the majority of your quilt should be to your left not your right. Having too much on the right impedes the movement of the embroidery arm.

I have an Innov'is 4000D and am using the largest one available for my machine, the 7x12 hoop.
Go to their site and you should find the right hoop size for your machine, get the biggest available. I bought mine on Amazon and it is so much better than using our regular hoops.
I recommend the hoop, as it will make life so much better doing embroidery.

Thank you ladies for the great advice! My hubby plans to purchase the hoop for my birthday in August.
The largest my machine will handle is the 8x12. Having the quilt mostly on the left of needle solves the issue of having room.
