If I love the pattern and the color, then making the quilt is Nr. 1
If I don't care so much for the color or pattern (those obligation quilts) then buying the fabric is Nr. 1
Owning the fabric is both a perk and a curse. How I view it, depends on the day and how badly I need to pet my stash.

Shopping for fabric is fun for me, but I would easily spend WAY too much dough if I did it every day! But, once I start working with the fabric I have, I can work on it for at least a little while every day, and get so much enjoyment out of it.

All three. Making Linus quilts give me an excuse to buy prints etc. that I would not use otherwise. At this point my youngest grandchildren are both 12 and my youngest daughter may never produce any grandchildren. Maybe I will have to wait for greats. I have a personal stash of at least a dozen bed size quilts I have already made and lots of wallhangins etc.

That's a hard question. I like all of those things. If I had to choose, however, I think buying the absolute perfect fabric match(es) ... and getting the right amount at the right price wins the contest. I just heard yesterday that a friend's 2-year-old grandson is ill and in the hospital, so, on my way to buy groceries this a.m., I stopped at Joann's and bought 2 perfect pieces of fabric to make a quilt for him, light blue cotton for the top and a darker same shade blue flannel for the backing. I really love it when I "luck out" at the fabric store.
