Color and design go together for #1 in my view. And it is not necessarily how simple or how complex it is that gets my attention. It's simply a matter of does it please my eye. It may be very bold or very muted, very simple or very complex, but if it all works together and is pleasing, then I like it.

I agree completely! The technical aspect of the quilt is interesting, but whether or not I LIKE it depends soley on 'how does it make me feel'. If I look at a quilt and it makes me feel happy and I really want to curl up in it, then I like it.

I would say for me it is number 1 AND 2, although it is not necessarily the complexity of the pattern that matters, but just how attractive I find it. For example, I like curves, whether pieced or applique. I like certain blocks, for reasons I can't explain - cake stand, for example. I don't like other blocks (Jacob's ladder isn't a favorite).

Color and pattern, in other words.

#1. A pattern does not have to be complicated to be eye catching. Simple pattern in good coordinated colors are great. Also, lots of pretty, intricate hand quilting.

For me, if the colors don't work together, nothing else will make me love the quilt or the project.

I think that technique - such as good seams and non-lumpinesss follow. But color coordination is paramount.

color scheme and the pattern used. Intricacy has nothing to do with it...sometimes the more simple the pattern the more eye catching I find it.

if I don't like the colors I wouldn't look at it close enough to see the other 5!
