I have a friend that owns a shop about an hour away from me, and since it is a new business.......great fabric .....she has 'volunteers" relieve her. She cannot pay them money, she pays them in fabric.......they love it......

This sounds like a scene from one of the Elm Creek Quilts books. Congratulations on a new mini career!

I work part-time in my LQS and it has definitely NOT toned down my desire for fabric. If anything it has made it worse. (LOL) Thank goodness I work for fabric.

Congrats to you on the job. I know I would be in my glory especially if I had to sew for the shop however I imagine I would be bringing new things home with me. It sounds like a dream come true. It will be more relaxing than the medical I also worked for yrs in a Dr's office. Enjoy your retirement. Sue

Well I have just done my first day !!

The shop - sadly - was very quiet but I loved it. As it was quiet it gave me a great opportunity to familiarize myself with everything and learn how my friend deals with everything. I think she was pleased with me as she sent me an email - thanking me for going in and will be sorting her rota out. I will be working just a few days a month - when she needs cover etc. It was great to be "out in the workplace" again.
