He doesn't realize that if you don't recycle his jeans you'll end up buying fabric. This way he gets new jeans and you get a quilt project.

And, no, I don't patch clothes.

I hate to patch clothes, too. I will do it for my DH since he only asks me to patch holes in front pockets. I can do that by hand and not worry about how it looks as long as nothing falls out through the patch. LOL I am going to patch the seat of my favorite pair of flannel bottoms that I have been wearing for years. They are so soft and big. I like to be comfortable so bigger is better. The fabric wore through at the middle of the seam. I am going to try a big square patch to cover a good bit of the bottom because one wear through means many wear throughs. If I am going to patch these, I want them to last a while. :)

Now I only patch small tears in newer jeans. If they need to be re-built from the pockets down, well they become grease rags around here now. I'd do darn near anything for my DH but there are limits on how long a pair of jeans will last. He still tries to get me to patch sometimes, bless his heart but I stand my ground on this issue, lol!
You have just written the story of my life.

I don't mind patching my DH's jeans, because we can't afford to buy him new ones every time he gets a little rip or something. But I do wait until he has 4-5 pairs before I do. I don't want to be fixing one pair at a time. I patch from the inside and use a thread on the outside that closely matches the denim in color. He wears them and never complains.

My sweet DD is the one always needed something mended, patched or hemed. Sometimes I wait until she forgotten and then put it in Good Will. I don't mind hemming bc she is so good to me, but that's about all I do for her clothes.

I just say 'No I don't want to' to all mending requests except for DH and that's only because I don't want him anywhere around my machine and he would get it in his head to try and do it himself.
