    Those are great (also for working in the garage--my mother snagged some years ago). The tops are very durable!

    Is the top slate? Hubby brought home an old science table for me to use in my studio many years ago - the top is solid slate and it weighs a ton but I loved it and we have moved it along with us 4 times regardless of the weight...and yes it will be a great cutting table if I ever put down the paint brushes. Enjoy it, it looks perfectly at home in your sewing room!

    Im not sure what it is, but it is heavy and I don't have to worry about putting my vintage iron in it since it won't damage the top.
