I hate to admit that I don't know what auto headliner is. I looked at Joann's web site and they do not carry it. Where else would I be able to find it?

Auto headliner is the soft fabric that they use to cover the inside roof area of cars (rather than vinyl or leather).

I've seen it at some of the bigger JoAnn's stores on rolls in the section where they keep their batting and such but have never looked at it on-line. My concern with having it shipped would be that they will fold it and that could crease or damage the foam backing. Hancock's has it in their on-line shop for purchase and in their stores. We called a local upholsterer to see if he would sell us some and he told us about getting it at Hancock's.

At the risk of sounding dumb... which side of the headliner do you use to lay the quilt squares? I am having trouble keeping the squares of a tshirt quilt on the "right" side of the liner. (not the spongy part) When I try to reverse it and use the spongy part...doesn't seem to hold well either. Am I doing something wrong?

Great idea using the headliner fabric. I'm using some W&N and its thin and has bearded on me from trying to vacuum the threads off from time to time. Also the pins won't stay as there's no cushion behind it. This should work much better. Thanks for the tip.

I rub a blown up balloon on my design wall when I put blocks on it. I don't need pins.

Not a dumb question at all. I used the fabric side of the headliner fabric. The only time I have trouble is when there are a lot of seams in a block (i.e., a Bonnie Hunter design). There just doesn't seem to be enough contact area with those so I have to use a pin to keep them in place. I was a little disappointed that happened because when Eleanor Burns uses one on her show, things seem to stick just fine and I used the same material on mine as she did on her design wall. Go figure.

My wall is covered in felt but I think flannel would react the same.
