My quilts aren't warm

If it's something you're going to use on your bed, you may want to take the plunge and use wool. We have a wool Pendleton blanket on our bed with a light quilt on top and it's very warm and cozy. We lower our thermostat to 58 at night and have never felt cold - not even now with the Midwest deep freeze. I'm fairly new to quilting and we have a king size bed, so I haven't attempted to replace our store bought quilt, but when I do I'm going with a wool or wool blend batting.

If one quilt is not warm enough, just add another quilt. Remember, it is layers that keep you warm, since they trap air. Densley quilted quilts do not trap air, so aren't very warm, tied quilts and loosely quilted quilts are much warmer, since they trap air. I just made a blue jean quilt, backed it with flannel, put a layer of batting in between along with another sheet. It is quite warm, so should be perfect for the car.

IMHO, down and wool are the warmest. Fleece under a quilt is nice and warm, or fleece over the quilt. I like the cotton next to me, but the fleece seems to hold in more heat.
