My quilts aren't warm
#13
I used two quilts one with Alpaca batting and one with warm and natural 100 percent cotton and flannel for the backing....I was very warm this morning even though it was 0 degrees out and my pipes froze.
Its below zero in Wisconsin and we're all bundled up next to the fire trying to keep warm. I'm noticing that my quilts are not very warm. I've tried warm and natural, and blend of cotton and poly. Seems like everyone is exchanging the quilts for fleece blankets. Any suggestions?

I find that after my quilts are washed a couple times they soften up and are warmer. I do my own quilting FMQ style and my problem is that I tend to quilt too densely and they are not as warm. So when I can't contain myself I wash the finished product a couple times and they come out softer. I use whichever batting is at hand, on sale, available, or otherwise within reach unless I have a specific outcome in mind.

Thanks for all the feedback on this topic, but I think when it gets super cold and windy a normal quilt just doesn't do the trick unless you layer them. It has been below 0 here the past few days and wind chills in the minus digits, so I dug out my down comforter to put on top of my quilt and it keeps me toasty warm at night. I can't wait for Spring!
