Default My turn to ask for opinions....

Someone had asked the name of this pattern and I didn't know...still don't but here are pix of several squares of what I have of the same pattern. The 2 with all the black embroidery were the original quilter's samples. I thought it was a bit too much and couldn't quite decide how to actually finish them differently but I have ended up with the plan of the purple yo yo flower after I did some of the flowers like she had. I definitely will add more details to the clothing, hair, etc, but my question is: which would you commit to? Follow the original samples or try to do it a bit more modern (and easier). Actually, I am not doing any of the boys but wanted to show the quality of the work. This was a collection of 85 squares, all the dresses have some type of lace, rickrack, whatever at the bottom and the one boy has 2 teensy blue appliqued dogs..amazing! All of the fabric is authentic 30's & 40's except for the reproduction strips I have added. Originally, I was thinking 48 blocks but have not gotten it to 35 which would allow me a little more hope of actually finishing it some day. Would you stay with the original plan and not feel guilty or revise it and feel a little guilty?

Pattern little ditch girl by Mary and a. Presley Curington from quilt worl magazine vol 21 page 51 copyright @ 1996.
Pattern 30 squares 5 x6 and true sashing I between and nine patch at corner stones. Blocks 121/2" size of quilt think it says 78 x 93 very blurred
It was originally made by Alsa Lacy Long Pressley in July1916' Alsa is a defendant of Jane Long the mother of Texas. And this quilt is still in the family.

Are you making it as an heirloom? Or are you making it because you like it? My guess would be that most quilters do not follow a pattern to the letter. We each leave our own mark without guilt. IMHO

Not my kind of thing I'm afraid. I find it quite spooky. That's just me though, I'm sure lots of people find it rather cute.

Adapt it to your own, that is what makes quilting worthwhile. I would make them have happy faces. The first ones look kinda sad.

Finish it the way that would make you look at the quilt and say, "Great job".

Even when I have a pattern, I have never followed it to a "T". Make it your own!! I would try or a happy face too.

I would do it my way. Sticking with the plan looks like the body is distorted. I would certainly do something with the body parts. I would fill in the shoes.

If it were mine, I would go the extra mile and add my own personal touches. You can make it as big as you choose. I really like this and now this is on my to do list off in the future somewhere. I have a daughter who is married to a dutchman and is living in Holland. Thsi would be a nice keepsake for her someday. hmmmm see what you got me started on? lol. i love it.
