I made one similar to this from a Bonnie Hunter free scrap pattern. You can google Bonnie, I don't know how to add web sites. Sorry.

I just went to Bonnie's site, hers is made with a 9-patch and squares it's in her leader & ender section.

It is just basically a modified nine patch. The first six patches are cut and assembled as usual, but the other three squares are cut in one solid color piece (rectangle) the finished size plus 1/2". By turning each block a different way, you get the design. Not sure there is a name, but have seen it before.
