Thanks so much, ladies. I'm gonna keep going along this route. I love your thoughts and ideas. I'll try to upload a picture of it, for some reason it won't let me. It's a great panel for practicing, that's for sure.

Angela Walters would say what other here have: repeat what you call a mistake and it looks like you did it on purpose.
Did you try drawing the quilting pattern on paper first? Best thing is to get the largest, cheapest sketch pad you can find, and use a marker. I'd try starting in the center, making a triangle that has the same angles as your piece. See where you can travel from there. But seriously, repeats of anything look intentional. Don't sweat it.

I like the character that the "wonkiness" gives it. but I think angela walters would do more of what she calls "dot to dot quilting". not quite what you have done, but may give a similar effect. or perhaps you can find some way to blend the two. Keep going with what you are doing though, no sense in changing it all now!
