Need help figuring this out

Need help figuring this out
I made several mug rugs using this pattern and loved them. Now I would like to use the same pattern to make a quilt top and see how that comes out but I can't figure out what to put to make the block square, triangles, strips, etc. Help !

I have a suggestion to enable you to figure this one out yourself.
Place a square piece of paper larger than the block on a table under the block.
Use your square up ruler to draw a square around the block onto the paper leaving enough for seams and saving your points.
Draw around the 'star' points as well onto the paper.
Move the block aside and you will see that you are going to use 2 different triangles for squaring up this block.
Cut out and add seam allowances to the two shapes you will need and you'll have the triangle sizes you have to cut.

Miss. Star has 2 patterns. 1 for a mini using a jelly roll & 1 is larger. The mini is in the first issue of Block mag. If you can find the Quilting Quickly mag. for the first year it has a pattern for the larger one. They also sell the templates but if you have the Quilting Quickly mag that has the templates in it. I made cardboard templates & went to a local glass shop & had 8-10 templates made for different patterns. I have 'shuffled' my magazines but will post the issue when I find it. Also check the tutorial section. You may need to go back a few pages but it should be there also.

I would try laying one of the piece block onto whatever fabric you want to applique the block to and see what size of background squares looks most pleasing to you. Thanks for the post. Hadn't seen this video before.

Roberta, I meant to say that one of the shapes will be like a lopsided square rather than a triangle. But you'd have figured that out when you drew it.

Thanks so much for the suggestions and Jan a special thanks to you but MOST of my quilting comes out like a lopsided square :-). Gonna give this a try. I'm a visual learner and sometimes I can't figure out written directions as opposed to visual ones. Some say it's because I just turned 73, I claim I'm a VISUAL learner :-)
