I really need some help with an idea to make a lap quilt for my son-in-law. He is a carpenter by trade, and I'm hoping to find some fabric and design. Any pics you can share? Ideas? Thx in advance!

There's a panel here. The pattern is 'Fix It'. You may be able to find other fabrics in the line.
Happy quilting!

(I just typed 'Fix It' into the search bar of the fabric section of eBay US and there's quite a few fabrics )

I am not sure about fabric but because he is carpenter by trade perhaps a carpenters star pattern in his favorite colors :-)

I love the Carpenter's Star idea. I would just use his favorite colors.

In my experience men are not picky you could choose a favorite pattern of yours and make it in his favorite colors in batiks. If he likes greens use a varriety of strong green batiks limiting the florals, you could also use blues or a varriety of brown and tan batiks. Also black and white or black and red are easy to read as masculine.

I would buy some carpenter tool fabric and use it in a Warm Wishes pattern.

I have recently seen some random tools on fabric. Warm Wishes is a free pattern on Quiltmaker's website. It is a really simple quick pattern.

My husband (and I think most men) like lots of color.

My dad likes all the darker colors (brown, green, dk. blue, etc.) but my husband really likes the brighter colors. Orange, reds, bright blues & greens with dark back grounds. So...a Carpenter Star in his favorite colors would be my suggestion, but let him know the name of the quilt block. Have a good time with your project.
