Default Need help making pattern bigger

My husband has asked for a quilted table topper for our dinning room table, it is 48 inches round. The first thing I thought was I will make a Dresden plate, we'll he does not care for that , however he likes the strata star pattern I have. My problem is the large size is 42x42, if I add another strip, to make it 9 fabrics does anyone know what I would mark my ruler at? I am thinking maybe 11 3/4 and 18 1/2 ? Does anyone know if this is right? I think this May give me a 48x48.

If you make it 48x48 the corners will go over the edge. The diagonal for that size quilt is about 68", if I did the math right. I've not made that pattern before, so I can't answer your question about just adding a strip. I hope you get the answer to that ? from someone else. Good luck. I just made a Carpenter's Star for my dil's table. It's pretty easy to adjust the size.
