My friend lost his brother in May. I have lost over 100 pounds and my friend gave me a ton of clothes from his brother. Most still have the tags on them. My friend likes simple but elegant. He did give me a ton of his brothers ties.

I was thinking a Dresden Plate with the ties.

Your ideas would be appreciated.

I think it is a nice idea you have of making your friend a quilt using something from his brother...I have seen some pictures on about.com of log cabin quilt made from silk ties...it was not a traditional layout, but it was lovely...they also had some pics of crazy quilts, and even a couple of rooster quilts...yep, rooster...and I must say, they were very detailed...I would never have thought it!! Just google quilts made from mens ties...it brought up the about.com site, and silk tie quilt photos. Congrats on your amazing weight loss! And my condolences to your friend...

I once made a Dresden Plate 5 feet across using ties. Very dramatic, at least my ex thought so, he requested to keep it.

Crazy quilt would also be nice. Any odd, light fabrics you can stabilize with Misty Fuse. What a nice thought.

Why not try something unusual with the ties? Everyone does Dresden Plate. How about a plaid? Google 'guilts made from ties" There are so many ideas that show up!
