Default Is this direct competition with vendors?

We just had the most awesome quilt show for our guild. We had a boutique where members made wonderful items to sell at a reasonable price, from tissue holders, pincushions, baby items, to purses, etc. They had put together some "charm packs and jelly rolls" to sell at a really reasonable price. We ended up selling them to members at our guild meeting thinking because of the price this might be in direct competition with what the vendors were selling. We had some very wonderful vendors and want them to come back for future shows. What do you think? We did not sell at the show these items. Just curious as our show is over but there is always next time? Please let me know your opinions.

I think you were very smart to refrain from selling charm packs and jelly rolls at your quilt show. You invited the vendors to participate and it would not have been wise to undercut them. Reserving the charm packs and jelly rolls for your guild meeting was a much better idea.

Personally, I think what your guild decided was appropriate. I'm guessing the "home made pre cuts" are more of a way to sell scrap fabric, so it would fall in the area of member to member left over fabric & used book sales that many guilds have at their normal meetings.

Many guilds sell odd assortments of donated fabric at their quilt shows, and that doesn't seem to compete with the vendors. I'm not sure whether having the fabric more artfully arranged into jelly rolls would change things. However, since you were able to sell within the guild, I think that's a better option, and one that left everyone happy.

I agree that it was a very considerate thing to do.

The guild hosting the show always has a sale table. People buy to support the guild and to keep having quilt shows. Vendor's products are retail and I have never heard a vendor complain about a guild sale table.

We originally had the things in our boutique to sell but took them out. Thanks for your input,
