There is one in our area with a similar concept. Bolts End in Castro Valley, CA is predominately the last parts of bolts with a bunch of new stuff in inventory. Their prices are low and quality is LQS. As far as I know, they don't do the consignment or trade like a used book store, however.

They make it only because they are in a little out of the way store near the freeway exit. They have a lot of guild member shoppers.

Only those of us who quilt quite a bit know of them. Due to rising prices, they don't do a whole lot of advertising - just word of mouth and membership at all of the local guilds.

That's going to be your issue, how to keep costs down and advertising out there so you can stay in business.

Good luck!

I have been to quilt shows where the guild hosting the show has a section of "second hand" items. I always look to see if there might be something for me

Absolutely! Possible many of these clients that drop off their items are hurting too and cannot afford to keep up with their quilting, and/or no longer have a use for the items. Puts extra money in their pockets either for necessities, or to contribute to their stash/quilting. If there were one near me, I would frequent it often.
