Which machine for granddaughter
I am looking at the Singer Quick Fix and the Janome Sew Mimi for my 7 year old granddaughter. Normally, I would go with Janome, but the Singer has a dual speed which I think would be good for her. Her sewing experience has been sitting in my lap and feeding the fabric through. But I thinking she would have more fun if she had her own machine. Hancocks will have both of them on sale this month for 49.00.
I would appreciate your review if you've had experience with either one of them. I've included a link incase you want to check them out.

You might want to talk to OKSewGlad over on this thread ...

She bought a machine to teach her DGDs to sew, and I believe it is a Janome Gem.
That way it gave Grandma a nice little machine to take to classes, instead of her big one.
And as you'll see in the thread, DGD is progressing well!

I have 2Singers and love them!!! I had the basic and now I have the Quilter's Confidence and the model just before that one . I use them daily and unmercifully. The basic was a great starter and I actually gave it to my neices as their first machine. So I would recommend any Singer product as I have had great success with 3 different models from them

I was considering the Janome Sew Mini for my granddaughter but my dealer recommended the Janome Harmony (1017). It was a little more but my dealer said it would be a better beginner machine and allow a little growing room. It is lightweight but I've sewn on it and it sews well. I don't know much about the Singer QuickFix. Hancocks is also going to have the Janome 3128 and Brother Free Arm K5590 on sale. You might do a search on Amazon and read some of the reviews!! Good luck...it's lots of fun to sew with grandchildren except mine get a little impatient during the "prep work". They want to dive right in and start sewing!!

I purchased the Janome 3128 that Hancock's also has on sale at 89.99. I originally planned on getting the Sew Mini, but in comparing the two I felt for another $40 the 3128 was a little sturdier It weighs 11# instead of 5# and I think the weight has it's advantages. There is no needle threader or automatic cutter on the 3128 as the Jem has. No it doesn't have the dual speed, but I found it was better for Emily to use a smaller stitch length (B). With the smaller stitch length the fabric moved through the machine slower. She progressed to the serger and that sews much faster than the Janome!
Here are the reviews from Hancock's website on the 3128. There were no reviews for the QuikFix.

My old Viking had dual speed and it was a godsend for teaching kids to sew as I taught many 4-Her's sewing and they loved my machine--too bad it wore out.
Good luck on your purchase and experiencing the joys of teaching your GD to sew.

Here's one review for the Singer:

Those skipped stitches would drive me crazy, but it looks like maybe that was denim she was testing on(?) - I wouldn't expect a little machine to sew on denim anyway!

I bought the Hello Kitty Janome machine for my DGD when she was 9. It has Janome Jem quality. Perfect first sewing machine. It is not a toy. It's sells $200 but on sale at Amazon now for $89. Great buy! The better Hello Kitty machine Janome 15822 on sale for $199, regular price $299. Girls and teens love these machines and it makes sewing fun and just for them. Many guild members have these machines for themselves to bring to classes. Sew fun!

I have the Janome Hello Kitty 18750. It is just great for taking to class. I originally purchased it for my DGD, but decided that it would be fun for me. It is!!! My DGD uses it sometimes, but her go to machine seems to be the Brother cs6000i. Lightweight and with oh so many fun stitches.
