Default Needles for FMQ and machine embroidery

I use the topstitch titanium coated Superior needles for both machine embroidery and FMQ. I'm curious which size needles everyone uses for these. Lately, I've been using the 90/14 for embroidering detailed caligraphy, and having some difficulty. I'm thinking maybe I should use a smaller needle on the thinner details. Any thoughts?

I mostly use jeans needles, as the finer ones bend and break too often, though I use them on fine work - also I need a larger eye for easy threading. Haven't found anyone round here who sells the titanium coated needles.

I use Schmetz Quilting needles size 12 and 14 but I don't own an embroidery machine.

I don't have a fancy embroidery machine, but do FMQ. The size of needle depends on my thread. For a 50/2 Aurifil or 60/2 Mettler, I typically use a 70/10. For a 40/2 Aurifil, I often size up to an 80/12. I also use 80/12 with Aurifil 28/2 & Gutermann 50/3 cottons and for Madiera Classic Rayon #40 for satin stitching applique. Most of the thread manufacturers post recommended needle sizes on their websites.
