    New Machine - Very Excited...

I have just taken posession of a new-to-me Husqvarna Freesia 425. OHHHHHH SO EXCITED!!!!

And the best part is that I paid 70 sterling for it (about 110 USD) which I thought was a fairly good price.

It is sitting on my dining table with my Bernina 930 (for which I paid 100 sterling last year - about 160 USD).

I have been playing with it all morning, and I am a very VERY happy bunny.

I think I did well on price, and on quality - both machines are perfect, and have had very little use.

    Whatdya think?

Thank you for your kind comments. I am really pleased! I teach a lot of workshops and find that my old Bernie is getting a bit heavy to lug around to classes. Hopefully my new Viking (nicknamed Helga by the kids), will be less of a strain.

Ohhh yes! I am having lots of fun getting to grips with the new one!

I feel very lucky that I have been able to pick up two exceptional machines at a very good price.

Now all I need is somewhere to put them! As you can see from the photos, the dining table is not really big enough for two machines, my son's laptop, my daughters Christmas crafts, and any other quilting work ...

Congratulations - you have two real bargains there. If it's any help, I've been looking at a fold-up table on Amazon UK that reviewers say is sturdy enough to use for a sewing machine.

Now tell me - where in the UK did you source a Bernina for 100 pounds?! I've been looking out for one for ages without success.

Well ladies - thank you for all your lovely comments. I am really enjoying using my new machine. I have just finished off my Pantomime costume on it, and it sews like a dream...

Annesthreads - I found it (and a Horn sewing cabinet) on the Ad Trader website. A lovely lady from Newcastle was selling it for her Mother in Law who was going into a home. It had hardly been used, and was in perfect condition, with all its attachments. I have to say I had looked for about 8 months before I found mine, and although I got very frustrated at times, the wait was worth it.

I found the Viking on Ebay - I had been bidding on it, but lost the auction. Then the highest bidder dropped out and lo and behold it was mine!

To Sandra, Kerry, Lovestoquilt, quiltinggirl, and to everyone else - I know I am going to enjoy my new machine. It is so much lighter than "Bernie" and will be great to lug around the countryside! I have discovered loads of Viking lovers and I am sure I will grow into one too!

I don't know much about any of the sewing machines above the more basic, but I know you will have lots of fun.

I'll have to keep looking! There's a guy in Lynemouth who reconditions and sells all sorts of machines - I've recently purchased a Singer 201 from him, and he serviced my Janome for me when I was in Northumberland recently, as I wasn't happy with the work done by the Sheffield dealer. I'll have to ask him if he ever comes across any Berninas.

Hi LindaM - thank you for your kind comment about my Celtic Knotwork - and my son! Yes he is doing homework (Computing - programming stuff - you know the kind of thing). He needs a haircut, but beneath the wildness he IS quite handsome!

I started my Knot at a workshop in Durham last weekend. I am trying to finish it off before the Festivities start. It is designed as a table centre: I will post it in the Photos when I have finished it (hopefully by the end of the week!)
