i just watched the videos on leah days site. the best i've ever seen. takes new quilters from step one on forward. i thought i was the only one who washed, starched and tore my fabric to get a good grain line. if you are a newbie you can't go wrong following her suggestions.

You have mixed reviews on tearing your fabric. It's been discussed MANY times!

on tearing fabric, i was taught more than 65 years ago to tear my fabric to find the true grain line. its always worked for me except with very cheap fabric. i trim away 1/4 inch after starching and pressing to get rid of the fuzzy edges.

I'm with you on this one, my grandmother always tore her fabric and I do the same, I tear a little larger and then cut/trim the edge. You are correct in the quality of fabric and the results when tearing it.
