when i used to quilt at work, i'd sew them together, and make a scrappy bincing for the next scrappy quilt.

I have a bin of leftover binding. Some mine and some from friends. I sew them together for scrappy quilt
    bindings

I've always saved my extra binding and generally use it for scrappy bindings for scrappy quilts. I can't see throwing away 2.5" strips of perfectly good fabric.

I cut bindings at 2.5" too.

Leftovers of 20.5" long are kept for my 'go to' square in a square pattern for Linus quilts. Cut 2 x 6.5" and 3 x 2.5" pieces and lay out as a square (long pieces at the top and bottom with a row of 3 squares in the middle). Lay out two blocks side by side and swap the centre pieces over. Here's what it will look like when finished.

If the strip is only 18", not long enough for a centre square to swap over, just use any scrap to finish the square.

I make these blocks when I want to do some mindless sewing and keep them to one side until I have enough of coordinating colours for a quilt. Sometimes I'll have a pile of 100+ blocks waiting for the grandchildren to lay out a quilt that they think is good. I take their word for it and just sew it together!!

I use them in scrap quilts. Recently I sewed several strips together and then cut them 2 1/2”. I had a good start for a scrap quilt of 2 1/2” squares. I also make strip quilts for donation. I always use the left over 2 1/2” pieces...so many ways. I even make my own “jelly rolls” of like colors. When I finish a quilt and have just a small amount of fabric left I cut it into 2 1/2 “ strips. These strips are my very favorite place to go for fun sewing.

I use it to "frame" my Labels. I sew the binding on the front of the quilt, make label, tuck into corner, sew label on, flip, hand stitch to back.

My leftover binding is used on future projects. While I am making binding, I always cut extra for future use.

I sew anything over 8-10" leftover bindings to each other and make a scrappy on for my next scrappy quilt.

    I like this idea too.
