Newbie Bookself/Bookcase quilt
hello ... I been looking at some posts and you all sound so wonderful and supportive..it looks like the group for me..I am new both to quilting and to the group so all the help you give me will be appreciated. I have made a few rag quilts and am currently taking a quilt coarse (making a table runner ) My husband came across a bookshelf quilt a few months ago and asked me if one day I would make him one he loves books. Anyway I have seen many pictures on line but no patterns ..I would also like to add other things on the shelf so that its going to be personal can any one help ..thank you

They are also called Library Quilts. If you google either name + pattern, many sources come up.

thank you I appreciate your help very much I will have to jump into it ..I had come across these and love some things on each of them I guess I just need to try and combine a couple and start the adventure I guess if I mess up I can always try again lol

[ATTACH=CONFIG]543458[/ATTACH]I made one last year without a pattern. I looked at LOTS of pictures of bookcase quilts and decided on the ones I liked best, then just did sections similar to those. It really was fairly easy, but did take lots of different fabrics in small pieces. Just do it a section at a time. I have my top finished but don't know how to quilt it so it is still unfinished!

Here's mine. Lap sized, I used some of a free paper-piecing pattern from Craftsy.com called The Project of Doom. As you can see, it's Harry Potter themed. I selected about half of the offered blocks to make this. The other blocks available are mostly books. You could leave out the HP themed bits and use the remaining blocks to do a books-only quilt instead.

There once was a pattern book for sale...I have it - somewhere. Sorry I don't know author, title, or if still available. I do remember each section of book stacks, appliqued whatever's are done separately as blocks, then the shelf edges are actually the sashings and border is the outside edge of the " bookcase". I was going to be really clever and embroidery book titles on the spines...still just an idea!
