OH I think I am thinking of something else than what I am seeing---I was wanting to make blocks that would be all the same in the 8 pieces the same but then sashed--I guess what I am wanting was a kaleidoscope type. I'll just keep looking and learning what I am looking for.

Yes, do keep looking and learning, for a OBW is indeed a kaleidoscope pattern.

OBW can be done with 8 pieces, but you sound more like your talking about a Stack N Whack

You need to get the book. The strips are cut 3.75 inches, but without the book it is obvious that you have no clue and will be lost.

They don't have to be 3-3/4" ... that can vary according to the pattern repeat and the size of the print. One of the benefits of taking a course, we were taught some of the ways beyond what the book tells.
