All this information is nice to know -- I have the fabric and the book but didn't even know there were different shapes! I think I will use the hexagons when I someday get around to doing this quilt.

I have made several OBW quilts and prefer the hexagon. It is fun to turn the triangles and decide which design you like best. With the Octagon you can only place the points together one way. I also found the extras square placement a bit of a challenge having it blend with the Octagon blocks that are next to it. For your first do the hexagon. If you enjoy it, then try the Octagon and see if you have fun with it too.

My OBWs have been octagons, and I am sure I was able to turn the triangles more than one way. Perhaps only 2 instead of 3, but definitely more than one.

I have a hex cut out, but not sewed, and am having lots of fun playing with them too.
