I am making a quilt as a gift for my sister, based on Bonnie Hunter's "Pine Tree Point." The top is directional with all the trees in the same orientation. Also, I'm using a flannel with penguins on it for the backing. That fabric also is directional. Yesterday I Elmer's Glue basted the whole thing together. This morning I looked at it and ARGHHH!! When you look at the top in the correct orientation, tree tops up, and then flip the quilt over from side to side . . . the penguins on the back are upside down! I am wondering if I would damage either the backing or the batting by gently peeling off the back and re-gluing it. Frankly, I'm leaning toward just quilting it as is, and calling it "interesting." What do you think?

I would lightly spritz it with water to make peeling the glue easier, and definitely correct the orientation, the poor penguins don't want to be doing handstands for the rest of their lives

You can't see both sides at the same time, unless it's being used with quilt flipped over at top...which brings those penguins into perfect orientation! I do this on purpose quite often 😊

I feel your pain. That's why I dislike directional prints. No matter how hard I try I always goof them up.

I would spritz a small section of the backing and see how easy it is to peel. If it is really difficult, I would quilt it as is. If it lifted quite easily , I would go ahead and remove and reposition. Good luck!

I once told a TV production crew, that if the mistake is not noticeable from 12 feet away. Most people will not see it either. You do because you are so aware of what you have created.

I would leave it the way it is like stitch678 if using and the top is flipped back the penguins on the backing will all be upright. Unless you tell your sister about the mistake she will probably never notice, it was a design decision.

I feel you pain. Noticed on a quilt I glue basted 2 blocks in a row were flipped and error was VERY noticable. Closer I looked. error in EVERY row. So I peeled, or is it pealed, the top off. Fixed the errors and finished the quilt.

Now with yours. I think I'd just quilt it and call it done. If it really,, really bothers you, take it apart. When I separated the top from the batting, I did not sprilz it. Spritzing will make the glue tacky.

You can steam Elmer's glue that has dried and it will loosen. I have done this many times when I glue basted the wrong way.
