Beautiful neutrals! You did great in picking your fabrics and on the cost!!! On these sales I try to load up on neutrals for background fabrics.

Great choices. Should always have good choices of light and dark material.

nice haul. i found that early on, i chose just my favorite colors. then i found that being a member of several groups, other colors outside of my comfort zone were required, so i picked up that type when they were on sale.

That floral fabric is my most favorite of all time. I've made two quilts for some of my favorite people, and I've saved up a bunch to make a quilt for myself. Love, love, love it!

Would love to see the bargello!

I think someone had fun shopping

Love your colors of fabric...these are the colors I started with myself and then things escalated...or should I say went out of control O-O

Enjoy the journey and be hooked ;-)

I see you found the same JoAnn's sale my daughter and I shopped at yesterday! We will be going back next week to use our 30% off coupons, too! They almost never have those Keepsake Calicos for 50% off. 40% is about the most they usually do. It was a good sale. This week JoAnn's is offering their better stuff-- the designer quilting lines-- at 40% off. I'm going to get the one's I've been wanting and use my 30% off coupon. It will get the price down from $12.99 a yard to about $5.45-- yay!

My favorite part of planning a quilt is going through the store and pulling fabrics, building a collection. It's so much fun! Have a ball and show us your double hourglass blocks when you get them made.

When I started building my stash, I tried to get a variety of all colors but only purchased half yard or yard cuts. Big mistake! Most quilt patterns call for way more yardage than that! I I'll have to use it up in small projects or scrap quilts!
Now I try to add neutrals such as white, black, cream, tan, grey, etc. when I find good sales. And I try to buy 3-4 yards of each. That way when I come across a quilt I want to make, I am free to purchase the focal fabric without having to worry about the background because I have a stash of neutrals. Of course, if I fall I love with a fabric line, I purchase as much of that as I can afford....
I love the browns you have chosen. Will have to add some browns to my neutrals stash!

"Question what are good colors to have in your stash? I know it is up to me but I'm sure there are some staples that are needed."

I would shop with a particular quilt in mind. I have a "wish" list of quilts or a color scheme in mind when I go shopping. If you don't have a plan you will end up with a lot of hard to use fabrics. Backgrounds are always good to buy but don't limit yourself to white or off white, black makes a great background too!!
If you love it buy at least 3 yards and watch out ... we mostly all buy too many mediums and not enough dark darks and light lights or those accents that make a quilt sing.
Welcome to the quilting world!!
