An "Oh Wow" quilt

I was also going to suggest Esther Aliu. She has beautiful quilts. She currently has several that are free. I am in love with her Oma's Blues pattern. I don't hand appliqué and am tempted to start it. I have been drooling over it for months. There are tips and instructions on her blog. Her Love Entwined patter is a real WOW quilt.

The optical illusions are definitely "Oh Wow's". But they are not that hard. The Tumbling Block section has several cute ones. Then there are the labyrinth and maze quilts in a new section here in the pictures sticky by Cat-in-a-mac. Check it out.Originally Posted by pahega
I am looking for a quilt pattern that will challenge my quilting skills. I would really like to do a needle turn applique one and would hand quilt it. When I look at it, I will want to say, "Oh Wow, I made that!" Does anyone have suggestions--unique or traditional ideas are welcome? I'm just not into modern or art quilts. Thank you.

I know I've had the "oh, wow!" response to some Edyta Sitar applique quilts. https://www.laundrybasketquilts.com/...=addedTimeDesc
This link goes to her applique pattern store; scroll down to see the good ones (also on the next page). I think I spent 5 minutes at a quilt show just looking at the details of her Spring Bouquet quilt that someone had entered. She also has books that you may be able to get through the library.

My first ever applique was made using a free pattern from RJR, Robyn Pandolph "a winter dance". I did change a couple things to make it mine. I changed the heart to a shallow dish like you see bonsai trees grown in. Instead of the circles, I used yoyos.

Here is my piece before it was used in a quilt. If I can do it, anyone can.
It is my "oh wow" piece still.
