Welcome. I hope you find the right pattern for your first quilt. You have had a lot of great advice already so the only thing I can add is to take your time and don't get discouraged when you make a mistake. Redoing is a good teaching tool. I started mine with two lap sized quilts and a baby quilt then went on to the larger sizes. Good luck and we will be looking forward to seeing some of your work here soon.

I would recommend that you take some online classes from Craftsy. There is so much to learn there. I am not affiliated in any way, just someone who has taken many classes from them.

Greetings from Northern California. My first attempt at quilting was a sampler class from the book Quilts! Quilts! Quilts! I REALLY appreciated it because it taught me all the terminology and all the finer points like 1/4" seams, accurate cutting, accurate pressing, and a host of other helpful hints. There were quite a few blocks I liked and WAS SURE that I would make a whole quilt out of them. After ONE block - I would change my mind on many of them.

Often we collectively recommend to a beginner (or "newbie) that they start with a manageable size and an easy pattern. Anything with triangles is not necessarily for the first lesson. BUT, that said, I agree with Alicat, do a test block and see how it works out. And if the first one doesn't try it again. None of us were experts out of the shoot. Most importantly - have fun with it.

What a great idea. Now wouldn't that just make a great jelly roll quilt, one would have all different designs and colors, and no repeats. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks quilt lady- I knew the measurements of most of these, but I don't purchase precuts normally, so I didn't know the measurements of some of these. I've not heard of Sushi Rolls either, nor twice the charms- new ones to me, but since I don't buy precuts, I would never have known these sizes. Thanks again. I learn something new every day.
