I'm pretty good at sewing straight seams and not using a guide. I've been sewing for 54yrs. My Juki TL98QE has a compensating foot, it has a small part of it that stays flat on the throat plate, fabric can't go under it, at alll. My Babylock Jane doesn't have one, just the 1/4" foot, I watch the 1/4" line on throat plate as I sew, just got this machine last June. I usually sew at moderate pace.

ooh, lots of great comments here! I am not feeling so alone now. Maybe I will sew straighter now that I feel warm and fussy from all the comments. I take whatever help I can get!

When I use my quarter inch foot, I stay pretty straight as long as I take my time and do not sew to fast. If I do it without the special foot--well lets just say it varies a LOT. grin

Straight - what a strange word - where did it come from - not in my vocabulary. I can draw a straight line with a ruler and you expect me to sew a straight line?!! I may get a straight line for a short distance but something always happens. My quilts seem to come out all right so I quess straight lines are not entirely necessary. Would be nice though. Guess I will keep dreaming.

Straight....what is this word straight??? I regularly veering off at the ends of seams and falling out of the ditch. My new mantra is ...sit straight, slow down and look where your going, not where you've been. (the last one I used to tell my eldest son when he was a little guy....we go out walking and he was forever walking into lamp posts....hmmm perhaps it's genetic.

So, we're telling the truth? Really? I've been sewing since I was 8 years old- #%^##$ years ago. It hasn't helped much but my 1/4 inch foot has helped some. Still, my fabric veers off at the end and it seems to no matter what I do.

Wow, telling the truth has set me free.
