So sorry that you joined that club. Been there done that, took a while to stop the blood and heal as I take blood thinners, but ended up ok.

Hope you will be all better soon. I have a horrific fear of this happening as when I was 20 I cut the tip of my thumb off with a paring knife, 5 days later I had gangrene, and that was after a visit to the ER doctor no less. I was fortunate that we were able to save my thumb.

My daughter is a member of the "club". She had to go to the emergency room and get stitched up. Her first quilt too.

I used to have a fear of doing this. When in Australia I found an integral cutter and ruler which works to perfection without a chance of cutting my fingers off. Also the blade lasts longer because it is always at the correct angle.
I have looked all over the internet to find another one but they seem not to make them anymore. Shame, it was a good idea.

Glad to hear it just required a bandaid. I did and required stitches on my thumb-wasn't even quilting yet. I did it sewing a toy for my then young son.

OMG! I'm not joining this club! I'm sorry to hear about your induction. Please don't try to run for office in your new club. ;(

I nearly cut my thumb nail off by using a dull blade. It hurts. I feel your pain!

This is page 4 and NO ONE has mentioned the fact that at the LQS you can get a protecter to prevent the blade from reaching your fingers.

It has a small plastic curved "wave" that sticks up over an inch and deflecks a blade up into the air rather than across a finger. To put them on a ruler just peel off the shipping tape and CAREFULLY place it on your ruler where you want it. Once down, it doesn't come off.

My DH saw it and bought 2, one for each of my 24" rulers (my favorite cracked and I still use it when I'm doing a cut over 24" and can't fold the fabric). Sometimes I grab the ruler and use the wrong side.... the other day he caught me at it and growled so I'm trying my darnest to use the ruler the "right" way.

OUCH !! I have never done that yet, either. But have cut myself a number of times with sharp knives in the kitchen.

Haven't joined this club yet but do belong to the food processor club! Was washing the blade with a sponge, carefully, but not carefully enough. Blade went right thru and cut into my pointer finger. OUCH! Worst of it was I had to travel on business the next day. Wrapped my finger, prayed it would be okay in the morning, and spent most of the flight holding my hand up in the air. :( Don't want to go there again!
