It looks like six hex's place around a center hex.. then set with triangles to fit them together..
From my remembering we used to make the hex.s and set them together then decide how many of the sets of hex.s would fit across the bed we wanted to cover and how many it would take to make enough rows for the length..then the end rows were made with half a set to fill each of the scoulup of the rows.. If you make a circle around the one of the sets of six with one in the center you can

see the pattern..especially in the second picture..
This makes a beautiful quilt and the quilting done on the 2 other examples is fabulous..I want to make one!!
