It stands for featherweight. They are the older machines, Singer, I think. Just straight stitch, I understand.

OH, I think I have one. It is a White/ goes back and forth. My husband bought it for me used(underlined) on our first wedding annversary 49 years ago. Does that make it a featherweight. Because it sure is heavy to me!!!!! I don't mean to sound flip, I am just wondering if an FW is just a Singer or any machine that goes back and forth and is an older machine.

Congrats on your FW....and thank you to all your familiy members in our armed forces.....My GS is in USMC and is going back to Iraq this month. I just hope they don't take him before the holidays. Post pics of the FW
