    I don't care for the first picture. The dark grey squares will form a large grey square with seams in. I like the sashing in the darker grey. The pattern of the square will still be visible after the sashing is on. And those Y seams can be done away with by putting one more seam in that half square on each corner. Good luck.

    I agree with Bree123, if you need the sash for more length/width then the dk grey looks much better, the lt grey washes it out. otherwise, I'd do without.

    The light gray flows, the dark gray breaks it up, depends on what look you are after, whichever will be beautiful!

    I like the light gray with dark gray cornerstones idea, too. It's going to be a beautiful quilt when it's finished. I think your son is going to love it !

    Don, I really like the light grey sashing but would add dark grey cornerstones to finish off the Irish chain design. It's going to be fabulous!
