Default Opinions welcome

I am making this quilt to donate to the Special Care Nursery for the preemies. It’s a very pale blue. I’m not into gender specific colours so I figured this would be appropriate. A friend told me that I shouldn’t have quilted hearts on a boy’s quilt as that it too feminine. I admit that it didn’t occur to me.

I’d love to hear your opinions.

Default Hearts for boys

We're talking babies here, not baseball stars. Hearts are great. Just ask any mom of a new baby boy. Hearts are perfect.

Hearts are totally appropriate for a baby boy's quilt. And pale blue is fine for girls. Sounds like you have run into a Quilt Police.

Hearts just symbolize love to me, and who doesn't need love? Your quilt is perfect!

I'm perfectly happy with blues for girls and hearts for boys. For a friend's son I made a lovely graphic blue and yellow (requested colors) trip around the world baby quilt, one of which was a completely project appropriate floral print. Not a dainty one, just a bold bright blue and yellow and I got a couple of the same sort of comments here and there. Fortunately, not from the parents who never noticed and/or cared

Not everyone has the same cultural biases. Not everyone likes the same things. In the guild I used to belong to there were plenty of sweet and girly quilts donated -- I'm not that sweet and so I typically deliberately make things that are appropriate but in non-pink or baby blue and more graphic than cute for the people/children/families that aren't that into sweet either. Plus having a son, I was also drawn to what other little guys might like better.

I think it's sweet for any baby. Why would hearts be only appropriate for a girl?

I have made baby quilts and did hearts on them. One was for a girl and one was for a boy. Both moms loved them.

Hearts are the sign for love. Leave them. Every baby needs love.

Don't see anything wrong with hearts...boy or girl.
Recently I saw some teenage boys wearing t-shirts
with a big flower so I guess it must be in.
